What to sort before a garage cleanout
A few separate piles make a garage cleanout easier to estimate and reduce the chance of sending special waste into a normal load.

First protect what stays
Move tools, seasonal gear, documents, and anything borrowed into a clearly marked keep zone. Photograph items whose ownership is uncertain.
Separate special materials
Paint, pesticides, fuels, batteries, and other household hazardous materials need their own handling. Collier County says these do not belong in normal garbage or recycling carts. Describe the removal pile
Count bulky pieces and estimate the number of boxes or bags. Note heavy items, stairs, narrow doors, and whether a vehicle can reach the garage. Photos can help a provider understand the volume.
Ask before assuming an item is accepted
A removal service may decline hazardous or unusually heavy material. Confirm individual items and fees before the crew arrives.
Finish with a clear path
Keep walkways and exits accessible. Do not climb unstable stacks or open unidentified containers to speed up the job.
